Pete Stewart - “Echo” from Under North Sky

Years ago, I had the tremendous opportunity to join Pete Stewart for some recording sessions in a Franklin, TN studio. I knew even then that this dude was the real deal. Now back in Seattle, Pete released Under North Sky. I finally had a chance to sit down and listen to this record (with headphones on) and I’m diggin’ it. Amongst releasing his own stuff, Pete is also working on a new album with his band Grammatrain- (which I’m looking forward to hearing as well).

Check things out for yourself:

Sometimes - Matt Brouwer

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

Several years ago, I had the tremendous opportunity to tour across North America with recording artist Matt Brouwer. This dude is the real deal. Awesome guy, talented singer-songwriter and super humble. I joined Matt for his first album “Imagerical” in 2001.

“Where’s our Revolution” was released in August of 2009 on his own label and is Matt’s third studio album. The album has received numerous awards including a JUNO Award in 2010 and was named best Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the year. The tune “Sometimes” is not only my favorite on the album but has also charted in the Top 20 on Billboard.

Mudcrutch - “Scare Easy”

Tom Petty formed Mudcrutch in 1970. Soon after the bands record label broke them up, several members went on to become Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. In August 2007, Petty invited the original members to reform Mudcrutch.

The whole album was recorded live - vocals, harmony, drums, everything. All arrangements were done right on the studio floor in 10 days - no headphones.

If you’re a Tom Petty fan, you have to own this album - http://www.mudcrutchmusic.com/#/album

Malignant Narcissism

Grammy nominated “Malignant Narcissism” was the last song recorded during the production of Snakes & Arrows. While the band experimented on some guitar riffs, drummer Neil Peart was present, but his expansive drum kit had already been shipped off from the studio. So, Peart decided to challenge himself with an unfamiliar instrument setup. Peart assembled a 4-piece and recorded drum parts for “Malignant Narcissism” with this minimal kit.
